Who Needs Fatty Acids?

If you are trying to convince people that they have to ingest essential nutrients on a daily basis because their bodies cannot manufacture them, why name these substances “fatty acids?” You may as well tell people they have to consume “corrosive oils” or “greasy inflammatory compounds” because “fatty” may not be good for you. And swallowing “acids” is insane.

Perhaps essential fatty acids should have been called “golden inner body oil” because in spite of a deceiving title, essential fatty acids are like liquid gold when it comes to good health. And the fact is: omega-3 and -6 are essential fatty acids. Every “body” needs them and no “body” can make them, so you have to ingest “fatty acids” to be healthy whether you like the sound of them or not.

Fatty Acid History

In the early 1800s, a French chemist by the name of Michel-Eugène Chevreul was the first to identify fatty acids, which he apparently also termed “acid fat” and “oily acid” as well. Obviously he had no idea that one day they would be essential to the human body. Michel-Eugène was into making soaps and candles from animal fats.

The first people to coin the phrase “essential fatty acids” were George and Mildred Burr, a husband-and-wife team who discovered that fatty acids were critical to health (www.asbmb.org). They identified linoleic acid (an ingredient in AIMega) as an essential fatty acid, a term that was coined by the Burrs. Their thorough analysis determined that if fatty acids were missing in the diet of test rats, a deficiency syndrome ensued and often led to rodent death.

If you’re thinking “you dirty rat” you have to recognize that rodents are used as human models in medical testing because “genetic, biological and behavior characteristics closely resemble those of humans, and many symptoms of human conditions can be replicated in mice and rats” (www.livescience.com). Besides, the experiments of the Burrs affect our lives to this day: omega-3 and -6 essential fatty acids are a vital part of our diets.

AIMega’s Essential Fatty Acids

There are two essential fatty acids that cannot be synthesized in the body: linoleic (remember the Burrs and their rats) and alpha-linolenic. They must come from food or supplements. Found in plant foods, these basic fats are used to build omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids (www.pcrm.org). Plant-based sources include legumes, green leafy vegetables, nuts and seeds.

It was already noted that linoleic is part of the AIMega formulation. Alpha-linolenic is its second essential fatty acid. Both fatty acids are from a healthy, plant-based source: organic oils of flax, sesame and sunflower seeds.

The benefits of essential fatty acids include:

  • Healthy structure, growth and function of cell membranes
  • Development and function of the brain and the nervous system
  • Normal thyroid and adrenal activity
  • Hormone production
  • Regulation of blood pressure, liver function and immune response
  • Active role in the transport and breakdown of cholesterol
  • Healthy skin and hair
  • Inflammation balance: omega-6 increases inflammation while omega-3 decreases it

The last point is the main reason AIMega is a balanced 2:1 ratio of omega-3 and -6. Inflammation is a necessary part of the inflammatory response: get a cut of your hand and it gets inflamed as part of the healing process. However, too much omega-6—a big dietary problem these days—and you have too much inflammation in the body.  AIMega alleviates this issue.

So it’s not a matter of “Who needs fatty acids?” We all do. It’s a matter of getting a healthy source such as AIMega that the body can utilize.

AIM BarleyLife and the Cat

My husband Art signed up to AIM because of a cat. Seriously! It was a cat that brought green blessings to the Ottawa Valley. The animal’s owner was a Wholesale Member who took what is now known as AIM BarleyLife for his personal use only, and Art witnessed the healthy transformation of the man’s pet.

The cat was so riddled with arthritis that going to the litterbox was the only time he was mobile. Otherwise, he was just lying around, unable to jump on the sofa or bed, and the cat had to be carried upstairs. Within a few weeks of being fed the green juice powder, the cat was more like his old self again.

When Art saw the cat jumping up on the furniture again and moving all about, it really impressed him. There was no placebo, no positive suggestion and none of this “power of the mind” stuff in the cat. It was the greens!

Art signed up with AIM under the cat’s owner, not the cat, and came home one day with a 6-pack of this amazing green powder. He had seen its potential for improving health. Reaching Chairman’s Club in 2002 and then getting into the One Million Dollar Club proved him right about the potential for earning an income as well.

“AIM changed our lives, so thank you to the owners and staff for all the support throughout the years.”

When we started with AIM, I was working as a nurse and experiencing a lot of pain in my wrists from arthritis. I couldn’t even mow the lawn anymore. When I began taking BarleyLife, things changed.

During the first month, I could feel the joint pain diminishing and my energy increasing. At the same time, the headaches I usually had around my period became more frequent. Fortunately, I learned in a nutrition class that this was one of the symptoms of detoxification. I persevered and eventually the arthritis and headaches became a thing of the past.

Art and I started promoting the health benefits of BarleyLife. We couldn’t believe how many positive testimonials just kept on coming. And we were both in good health and had so much more energy, even after long days at markets or health shows, where we introduced so many people to AIM. Many of them are still our best friends.

That was more than twenty-five years ago. Art passed away in July 2009. He lived such a full life. AIM changed our lives, so thank you to the owners and staff for all the support throughout the years. And a BIG THANK YOU to my team (upline, downline and customers) for believing in the AIM products and a whole-food approach to supplement our nutrition.

On a final note, the cat lived for twenty-two years!

BE IN HARMONY AND STAY CURIOUS.

RediBeets Being Tested in Clinical Trials

Clare Zamzow, PhD candidate at Boise State University in Boise, Idaho, is using AIM’s RediBeets in an upcoming clinical trial at the college’s Human Performance Lab. The trial will test the effects of dietary nitrate on trained athletes during wingate trials.

A wingate trial, for those unfamiliar, is similar to riding a stationary bicycle. The experience, however, is much, much different. Prior to the test, the wingate is adjusted to a rider’s body weight. The participant hops on the apparatus and pedals, warming up for thirty seconds. At that point, the test subject is asked to pedal as hard and as fast as he or she can, but then the resistance—which is based on body weight—kicks in. It suddenly feels like you’re running through thick mud, each revolution of the pedal becoming slower and more cumbersome. A thirty-second trial becomes an eternity, a sixty-second trial, a nightmare.

Although the test is unpleasant for the participants, it’s a great way to measure maximum endurance and power output in a short amount of time. Each participant in the study is asked to participate twice in this study, once after drinking RediBeets and once after using a placebo drink. Then at the end of the study, Zamzow will compare the two time trials and look for significant statistical patterns in the data. Participants are also asked to test their dietary nitrate levels with Berkeley Test® Strips.

The AIM Companies™ has provided the RediBeets to the clinical trial. We are excited by the prospect of having our product used in advancement of science. The majority of studies on beet juice have shown positive results, i.e., beet juice improves athletic performance.

One other item of note: Red Rush was disallowed due to the concern that Red Rush’s great-tasting cherries and lemons could somehow interfere with the data collection. However, the results will still be applicable to Red Rush.

The Missing Link to Good Health

Over the centuries, there has been much debate over the value of dietary fiber. In fact, before the 1970s, it was called crude fiber because it was thought to be unimportant for good health. Since then, fiber has been proven to be an essential part of a healthy diet, but most people don’t get enough.

Not getting enough fiber means you are not cleaning your insides. Without it, waste becomes impacted along the intestinal walls, which can result in any number of health issues.

Along with cleansing and helping to keep your hunger and blood sugar under control, fiber also helps to regulate how your body uses sugar.

As an everyday fiber supplement, fit ’n fiber makes it easy to top up on this essential carbohydrate that your body won’t gain calories from and doesn’t digest. So stay unclogged, sugar-balanced and satiated with help from fit ’n fiber.

If You Do These Five Things, You’re Gonna Need Some FloraFood

FloraFood, Probiotic, Good bacteria

There are more microorganisms in your stomach than there are cells in your body. This fact might be mind-blowing to some people, but since I’ve always had a severe inferiority complex, I have somehow always just figured that my body is more valuable as real estate for bacteria than I am as a human person. That’s a joke. I actually feel reasonably ferior.

In any case, those bacteria are extremely important to everyone’s human person, and killing off scores of beneficial bacteria can cause stomach pain, can make digestion difficult and can even lead to illness. FloraFood from The AIM Companies is the answer to keeping the environment of your stomach balanced and healthy.

You should be especially wary of your gut-flora levels if you have engaged in these five at-risk behaviors.

1. Ingest Artificial Sweeteners

According to a recent study, artificial sweeteners increase the blood sugar levels of both mice and men and disrupt gut flora. Artificial sweeteners have been linked to obesity and diabetes as well. My advice: Avoid artificial sweeteners.

From the CBC:

The increase in consumption of artificial sweeteners coincides with the obesity and diabetes epidemics, Eran Segal of the Weizmann Institute of Science in Rehovot, Israel, and his co-authors said.

“Our findings suggest that non-caloric artificial sweeteners may have directly contributed to enhancing the exact epidemic that they themselves were intended to fight.”

2. Use Antacids

Your stomach is supposed to be acidic and gut flora is supposed to live in an acidic environment. When you destroy your gut flora’s environment, it dies.

3. Eat GMOS

Most of the corn and soybeans in the US has been treated with glyphosate. That means, animals that have been fed corn or soybeans have been “treated to” glyphosate. Glyphosate can disrupt your gut flora, but that’s just the tip of the iceberg.

4. Suffer from Stress

I once heard that “stress will kill you faster than anything.” Stress can damage the necessary endothelium that lines your veins, and it can also kill your gut bacteria. It is bad news…and hearing bad news is also stressful.

5. Have Taken Antibiotics

We all have to go to the doctor from time to time, but after we’ve taken our antibiotics, we need to make sure to get our gut flora balanced again. So if you’ve been sick, it’s probably a good idea to reach for the FloraFood.
