Childhood Weight Issues

It’s a sad fact of modern life that so many children around the world are facing a health problem that is largely preventable: being overweight (having extra body fat) or obese (having too much body fat).

The World Health Organization (WHO) presents some alarming statistics on the number of children who are affected by excess body weight:
• 41 million under the age of 5
• Over 340 million aged 5-19

WHO notes that an energy imbalance relating to calories consumed and calories burned is the underlying cause of these weight issues. Globally, people are eating more high-fat food and doing less physical activity. Both lifestyle factors have been adopted by the younger generation.

Overweight or obese children usually remain so as they become adults, increasing their risk of the early onset of health problems such as cardiovascular disease, type 2 diabetes and osteoarthritis. An unhealthy heaviness has no place in the life of a child.

Reducing Weight Issues

Seeing as how the right kind of food and regular exercise is integral to maintaining a healthy body weight, parents need to take charge in providing direction and discipline to children so that they avoid or reverse the trend toward obesity.

Giving children healthy supplemental nutrition from AIM provides nutrient-dense, vegan drinks with few calories. One serving of BarleyLife or RediBeets is only 15 calories. CoCoa LeafGreens, a chocolaty favorite of kids, is just 10 calories per serving.

Most importantly, AIM nutrition gives children the right kind of food for maintaining their physical shape and wellness into a healthy future.
