Four Cool Growing and Harvesting Facts

“Why BarleyLife is Unique”

#1 Grown Outside

One of the reasons that the barley plants AIM uses are so nutrient-dense is because the grass grows outside in the varying weather conditions found in nature: sun, rain, extreme dryness, moisture, etc., which stimulate the production of protective nutrients. Many barley grass products are made from grass grown indoors in greenhouses. This is a huge nutritional disadvantage because there is no direct exposure to the elements.
In particular, cooler temperatures stimulate the production of antioxidants to defend against this “cool” element that threatens the life of the plants. By growing our barley crops outdoors, we are increasing nutrient levels long before the grass is harvested.

#2 No ‘CIDES’ Are Used

Additionally, our barley grass is grown in nutrient-rich soil without the use of fungicides, herbicides or pesticides. And all plants are planted close together so that there are no other competing plants in the fields of barley. Once the plant has reached the desired height, which is quite short, the harvest begins.

Harvesting takes place in the evening because, once again, temperatures are cooler than during the daytime. In low temperatures, the plants produce what could be referred to as natural antifreeze, pushing sugars and nutrients into the leaves to protect the plant and the cells from freezing.

#3 An Evening Harvest

The coolness of the evening also helps to preserve other nutrients, such as vitamins, minerals and live enzymes, until the barley grass is transported to the juicing facility, which fortunately happens to be very close to the crop fields. This means AIM harvests the barley grass at its nutritional peak and delivers it directly to the process that makes it a juice powder jam-packed with nutrients.

#4 Cooler Is Better

It is vital that the cool temperature remains throughout the processing stage because the cold slows the degradation of the grass after it has been cut. This applies especially to the live enzymes that would literally run out of control and spoil the juice powder if we didn’t keep them cool. Colder temperatures allow us to transfer the “fresh grass” taste and nutritional quality of young barley plants into every canister of BarleyLife. And that is a pretty cool accomplishment.

5 Reasons to Get More Chlorophyll in Your Diet

IMG_9090

We all remember chlorophyll, one of the main characters from our 8th grade Biology textbook, the green pigment found in plants and algae that absorbs sunlight for photosynthesis. It’s the veritable lifeblood of plants, resembling, also, the hemoglobin found in human blood.

Every time we eat a raw green, vegetable, we also consume nutritious chlorophyll. What many people do not know is that cooking a vegetable will destroy its chlorophyll content along with other important enzymes. Ideally, we should aim to keep our food’s chlorophyll intact because of the numerous benefits it provides. Here are a few of those benefits.

1.Antioxidant Action

Probably the most well-documented benefit of chlorophyll is its powerful combination of antioxidants. A 2013 study published in Food and Nutrition Sciences called chlorophyll compounds “important health-promoting dietary factors which can protect the body through multiple chemical mechanisms.” The study cited that chlorophyll and pheophytins (a chlorophyll molecule lacking a magnesium ion, just FYI) function as antioxidants that help prevent oxidative DNA damage and lipid peroxidation (cell damage caused by free radicals). Chlorophyll is believed to scavenge free radicals and chelate (to bond with and neutralize) reactive ions.

  2. Reduces inflammation

Because chlorophyll contains a great deal of antioxidants, it will also help combat chronic inflammation.

 3. Possible Carcinogen Removal

Chlorophyll has been shown to reduce carcinogen bioavailability and biomarker damage in animals as well as aflatoxin (a fungal toxin that can attach to grains and spices) in human studies.  A smaller study, found that chlorophyll might also aid in  removal of carcinogens associated with fried-meat products.

4. Promotes Better Wound Healing

Since the 1940’s chlorophyll has been used topically on wounds to promote healing, reduce inflammation and is still used for those purposes today. It is believed that chlorophyll slows the growth of some kinds of anaerobic bacteria and, therefore, aids in the healing process.

5. Odor Control

If you were to slap a bunch of chlorophyll under your armpits, you’d wind up with green armpits. However, chlorophyll has been used for over a half-century as a way to control internal odors.  It is used topically to dampen fouls smells from wounds.  It has also been employed internally to reduce the smell of colostomy bags, urine and feces.  A new study on people who suffer from Fish Odor Syndrome– a genetic disease that causes some people to smell like fish–found that 60 mg of chlorophyll daily reduced that smell.

Get Your Chlorophyll from BarleyLife

Each 4-gram serving of BarleyLife contains over 19 mg of chlorophyll, and BarleyLife is processed cold, locking in the freshness and nutrition of other chlorophyll and other digestive enzymes one would  normally find in a fresh vegetable. As a powder, the nutrients in BarleyLife can be absorbed quickly and more effectively than a garden-variety vegetable.  It is also easier to digest and only contains 15 calories per serving.

BarleyLife Babies

BarleyLife Babies

For AIM Chairman’s Club Directors Ken and Lanny Donald, becoming grandparents carried a triple twist of fate. Their daughters, Kalina and Jensina, both gave birth in September 2014 only four days apart. Kalina’s twin boys, Kaelan and Keiran, came first followed by Jensina’s son, Kaius. In the space of less than a week, Ken and Lanny suddenly had three grandkids. This welcome trio of boys has blessed the lives of the Donalds, their extended family and friends.

Both Kalina and Jensina have taken AIM products for years, and during their pregnancies, they primarily took AIM BarleyLife® and AIM LeafGreens™ to boost their energy levels and maintain a healthy nutritional intake.

Shortly after giving birth, Kalina received some guidance from Kathleen Bird-Ekman, an AIM Preferred Member who is also a nutritional consultant, as to when she could give BarleyLife to her twins. Kathleen’s seven-year-old son, Robert, and three-year-old daughter, Alexandra, have enjoyed AIM greens from the time they were about six months old and both children are incredibly healthy.

The Donald’s preferred method of using BarleyLife has always been to take the powder dry. “I found that when I tried to give my boys BarleyLife on a spoon, their breath blew most of the powder away,” Kalina stated, realizing it was time for a different method. “I noticed that when the canister was left open and there was humidity in the air, the powder would form into little clumps. I decided to mist water on some of the powder and roll it into little balls. Voila! BarleyLife candy,” Kalina exclaimed.

This became the ideal delivery method for all three of Ken and Lanny’s grandchildren. “Kaius goes wild when you walk toward him with a BarleyLife canister,” Jensina stated. “And Kaius, Kaelan and Keiran all love it.” In fact, both moms relate that thirty minutes before milk time, their children’s facial expressions signal they’re clamoring for BarleyLife. They suck on these healthy BarleyLife balls and end up with greenish-black lips and faces. But it keeps the boys healthy, and they rarely get sick.

Recently, Kalina and Jensina have been giving the boys the Garden Trio to increase their nutritional intake. And both moms have upped their own AIM intakes for very good reasons. “Because they are actively moving around now, we’re more exhausted now than when they were newborns,” Jensina admitted. “We’d be dead in the water without AIM products.”

Barley Grass Powder Benefits Type 2 Diabetics

BL Diabetes

With diabetes rising to epidemic proportions worldwide, effective ways of treating this debilitating and often deadly disease are of international importance. Natural supplements rarely receive scientific attention; however, a type 2 diabetes study published in the International Journal of Green Pharmacy (2010)1 revealed that barley grass powder “holds promise to be used as a functional food to optimise the health of diabetic subjects.”

Researchers at the Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda conducted the study using capsules of barley grass powder, produced specifically for their investigation. Over 80 percent of the type 2 diabetics in the test group were either overweight or obese, factors that are associated with the increased risk of developing diabetes. In fact, current thought suggests the cause of type 2 diabetes is a high-calorie diet rich in saturated fats—mainly from animal sources of food—that promote unhealthy weight gain and raise LDL (bad) cholesterol levels.

For two months, each individual in the test group took four capsules daily that provided 1.2 grams of barley grass powder. None of them took any other supplement or pharmaceutical medication nor did the control group of diabetics who were not taking the capsules. The results were impressive for the test group taking barley grass powder: significant lowering of their glycated hemoglobin and fasting blood sugar levels. Lowering blood sugar to healthy levels is the key to reversing diabetes and its ravaging effects.

The study also showed the barley grass powder decreased the test subjects’ bad cholesterol and increased their good cholesterol, results that help to lower the risk of cardiovascular diseases, which Type 2 diabetics are prone to developing.

Try the daily addition of AIM BarleyLife®— powder or capsules—for a positive lifestyle adjustment to help lower high blood sugar and cholesterol levels.

The Ride of His Life

Richard Porter

The solution for Richard Porter, AIM Member, was the recovery and energy from the AIM Garden Trio®—AIM BarleyLife®, AIM Just Carrots®, and AIM RediBeets.

Richard’s problem? Finishing a daunting 300- mile bike ride.

Twice before, the 300-mile bike ride—a ride for charity from Richard’s hometown of Plainview, Texas, to the Dallas-Fort Worth area—had led to a disappointing finish and a lot of questions. The answers came from friend and AIM Director Debra Pugh who introduced Richard to the nutritious beet, carrot, and barley powders of the Garden Trio.

“I was stunned at how good I felt after trying the Garden Trio,” Richard said. “The first time I took it was in place of breakfast in the morning before a workout. I had the incredible energy for the ride—energy that I hadn’t had up to that point. That sold me.”

When he assessed his previous 300-mile ride attempts, Richard identified his problem as being one of recovery and energy. Riding 100 miles in one day is completely exhausting, and Richard aimed to do this three days in a row. On his first two attempts, he made it through two days of cycling before stopping. The third time, with the help of the Garden Trio, he completed the 300-mile journey.

“On the ride, the recovery part of the Garden Trio really became critical,” Richard said. “A trained cyclist can bike 100 miles a day. Can they do it two days in a row? Three days in a row?

“When I took the Garden Trio at night following each leg of the ride, I didn’t have the fatigue and the soreness and the lethargy that I normally had on the subsequent day of a hard ride.”

The ride was not without its obstacles. Richard encountered a twenty mile-per-hour headwind, asthma attacks, seven flat tires, and unexpected road construction. He admits that at age forty-nine he doesn’t have the same energy or stamina as he did in his youth, but he may have found his solution with the Garden Trio.

“It seems to be doing remarkably well for me as an energy drink and a recovery drink,” Richard said. “As an older athlete, being able to do a hard work out, come in and drink the Garden Trio, and get up the next day to work out again, it’s amazing.”

Richard will continue with his charity rides as he raises money for a scholarship endowment for college-age missionaries. His next ride is planned for April or May.

A Healthy Diet Keeps You Happy According to Science

Healthy Vegetable Supplements

If you think about nutrition at all–and I’m pretty sure that you must–then you’re aware of the positive impact of a healthy diet on the human body: lower risk of disease, fewer illnesses and a good body weight. What you may not know–but you probably at least suspect–is that healthy food choices can influence your mental health as well.  Now, new research published in BMC Medicine goes a long way to back up your numerous suspicions.

In their rather large study that examined over 15,000 people over a ten-year period, researchers were able to find a link between a healthy diet–defined as one high in fruits, nuts, veggies, legumes and low in processed meats and sweets–and a decrease in likelihood of developing depression. These possible depression-dampening effects were attributed to the nutritional properties of omega-3’s, vitamins and minerals.

All participants in the study were depression-free at the outset and were asked to adhere to one of three healthy diets: the Mediterranean Diet, the Pro-vegetarian Dietary Pattern and Alternative Healthy Eating Index-2010.  Over the years, they filled out surveys that monitored how well they adhered to their diet of choice.

After several years, a total of 1,550 participants reported depression or had been treated for it. What the researchers found was that those who adhered to a healthy diet were less likely to have suffered from depression, and those who switched from an unhealthy diet to a healthy diet  saw the greatest depression-deflecting benefits which plateaued after sticking to the diet plan for awhile. Strict or very strict adherence to a diet plan didn’t seem to confer additional advantages. (You can, it seems, live a little).

From the Press Release:

The Alternative Healthy Eating Index-2010 was associated with the greatest reduction of risk of depression but most of the effect could be explained by its similarity with the Mediterranean Diet. Thus, common nutrients and food items such as omega-3 fatty acids, vegetables, fruits, legumes, nuts and moderate alcohol intake present in both patterns (Alternative Healthy Eating Index-2010 and Mediterranean diet) could be responsible for the observed reduced risk in depression associated with a good adherence to the Alternative Healthy Eating Index-2010.

The AIM Companies offers a fun and convenient way to get your vitamins and nutrients through its whole food juice concentrates made from all-natural food products like the green leaves of young barley grass, beets, and carrots.  The Garden Trio–a mixture of RediBeets, Just Carrots and BarleyLife–supplies a rich mix of antioxidants, nutrients, minerals and enzymes that tastes great, supplies your body with a jolt of garden-fresh nutrition and keeps that smile on your face.

Health and Happiness with AIM

FF BL

By Emily Liu (Translated by Dr. Yu-Shiaw Chen)

I hope people can benefit by reading my testimonial. I live in the small, quiet town of Hillsborough, New Jersey. Twenty years ago, my friend introduced me to AIM’s green barley powder, and I haven’t gone a day without it since. Before becoming an AIM Member, I usually had a sore throat or an infection of some kind. Now, I rarely catch a cold or have a sore throat. Here’s another interesting thing: I don’t have to dye my hair. It is shiny and black, the color of someone twenty years younger. I believe this might be due to my persistent use of AIM BarleyLife®.

Another great product is AIM FloraFood®. One day in the summer of 2009, I woke up with several red bumps on my left arm. I thought they were bug bites, so I applied some drugs for swelling. None of them worked. The bumps got bigger and more appeared. I went to see a doctor and was diagnosed with herpes. The illness wasn’t as painful or as uncomfortable as the doctor predicted because I was very health conscious and took AIM products consistently. The doctor even teased me saying, “You don’t look like you have any pain at all.”

I am very grateful for AIM’s FloraFood. I believe it alleviated my suffering and made my recovery from herpes much quicker. A month later, I was able to help a friend who had poison ivy all over her feet and legs. I immediately told her about FloraFood as a solution to her poison ivy problem. I gave her capsules. Two days later, I followed up with her and her feet were much better.

In the New Jersey springtime, many people are aggravated by hay fever and allergies as well as poison ivy and other plants. I recommend everyone take advantage of BarleyLife and FloraFood for protection against those threats. That way you can enjoy all the flowers in bloom.

Finally, I am grateful for the research done by The AIM Companies™. They have come up with so many superb and beneficial products. In the past decade, so many different health food supplements have appeared in the marketplace, but I have never lost my faith in the AIM products and will never give up the privilege of using them. The AIM Companies has given me unexpected health and happiness.

Note: Emily Liu takes AIM’s Garden Trio® and CalciAIM™ as her morning drink. She also uses AIM Proancynol® 2000, CellSparc 360®, and AIMega®.

Testimonials should not be construed as representing results everybody can achieve.
