Embracing Whole-Food Nutrition

Westerfield

Two-time cancer survivor Mary Westerfield, an AIM Director from Cincinnati, Ohio, embraced whole-food nutrition, juicing, and healthy eating in her battle with cancer. And the plan worked! Mary has been cancer-free since 1986.

“’Let food be your medicine’—that’s how I have been living for the past twenty years,” Mary said.

Mary was first diagnosed with cancer in 1980 when doctors found a malignant tumor in her neck, which was found to be Hodgkin’s lymphoma. She did a course of radiation that left her in extreme pain and unable to tolerate swallowing whole food. The cancer remained at bay until 1986 when an annual checkup revealed a lump on the opposite side of her neck. Doctors prescribed chemotherapy, which Mary endured for seven months.

Radiation and chemo were incredibly hard on her body, so she sought a way to build her body back up.

Friends led her to nutrition as a means of strengthening her immune system. Mary began drinking carrot juice and discovered the benefits of whole foods, fruits, and vegetables. In 1995, she became an AIM Member. She continues to use AIM BarleyLife® each day and AIM Herbal Fiberblend® to maintain a healthy colon.

Since changing to a healthy-eating lifestyle, Mary has had no recurrence of cancer. Her health problems are a thing of the past.

“It is almost impossible to list all the benefits I have experienced from my new lifestyle,” Mary said. “I never get colds or the flu and no aches or pains. Many people can’t believe I ever had cancer. They think I am in my late thirties or early forties, and I will be sixty next year. I’m now coaching others to use AIM products for their health and nutrition.

“I have been using AIM products since 1986, and I know this natural lifestyle is what’s keeping me healthy and happy.”

A Healthy Diet Keeps You Happy According to Science

Healthy Vegetable Supplements

If you think about nutrition at all–and I’m pretty sure that you must–then you’re aware of the positive impact of a healthy diet on the human body: lower risk of disease, fewer illnesses and a good body weight. What you may not know–but you probably at least suspect–is that healthy food choices can influence your mental health as well.  Now, new research published in BMC Medicine goes a long way to back up your numerous suspicions.

In their rather large study that examined over 15,000 people over a ten-year period, researchers were able to find a link between a healthy diet–defined as one high in fruits, nuts, veggies, legumes and low in processed meats and sweets–and a decrease in likelihood of developing depression. These possible depression-dampening effects were attributed to the nutritional properties of omega-3’s, vitamins and minerals.

All participants in the study were depression-free at the outset and were asked to adhere to one of three healthy diets: the Mediterranean Diet, the Pro-vegetarian Dietary Pattern and Alternative Healthy Eating Index-2010.  Over the years, they filled out surveys that monitored how well they adhered to their diet of choice.

After several years, a total of 1,550 participants reported depression or had been treated for it. What the researchers found was that those who adhered to a healthy diet were less likely to have suffered from depression, and those who switched from an unhealthy diet to a healthy diet  saw the greatest depression-deflecting benefits which plateaued after sticking to the diet plan for awhile. Strict or very strict adherence to a diet plan didn’t seem to confer additional advantages. (You can, it seems, live a little).

From the Press Release:

The Alternative Healthy Eating Index-2010 was associated with the greatest reduction of risk of depression but most of the effect could be explained by its similarity with the Mediterranean Diet. Thus, common nutrients and food items such as omega-3 fatty acids, vegetables, fruits, legumes, nuts and moderate alcohol intake present in both patterns (Alternative Healthy Eating Index-2010 and Mediterranean diet) could be responsible for the observed reduced risk in depression associated with a good adherence to the Alternative Healthy Eating Index-2010.

The Difference AIM Makes throughout the Years

Years

Shared by Albert and Elyssa Alvarez, AIM Directors in Weiser, Idaho

This is our thirty-second year with AIM, and this last year has shown us how much we have benefited from taking AIM products. We are very thankful to the Lord for directing us to AIM.

In April 2014, my husband, Albert, was limping so badly that the Forest Service made him resign from his job after thirteen years of service. He had to undergo a total hip replacement in June. Before the surgery, his nurse told him that it was the first time she had taken the stats of someone who was Albert’s age and not on medication. Right after the operation, we found him sitting up eating his dinner. The nurses called him amazing in his recovery. The day after surgery, the nurse asked him if he could walk 30 feet and he walked 130 feet without a problem. His immune system was very strong, and he had hardly any pain. Even the home health nurses said it was very unusual for him to be so healthy after a hip replacement. A month later, the doctor signed a letter stating he could go back to work at the Forest Service with no restrictions although his employer said that was too soon. They didn’t hire him back until April 2015. Albert turned eighty in July.

In January 2015, my doctor had me get a colonoscopy. He thought I was constipated when I started having problems in December. I’ve never been constipated except once when I was a teenager. How surprised we were when the doctor found my colon almost closed off by a cancerous tumor. Cancer was the last thing I thought I would ever experience since I watch what I eat, and I have been very health conscious for over fifty years. My life was not my own from January until May 4 as I had chemo and radiation, but thankfully I was never sick nor did I lose my hair. The main products I took faithfully were at least 3 to 6 heaping tablespoons of AIM BarleyLife®, 1 to 2 tablespoons of AIM Just Carrots® and 2 teaspoons of AIM RediBeets® every day.

My surgery was on May 4, and my doctor said it was textbook perfect. The nurses commented on my excellent health, saying I wasn’t a typical patient. Feeling great and having no pain, it was hard not to overdo it in recovery. The doctor was able to remove the tumor close to my rectum without requiring me to have a colostomy bag.

We thank the Lord for his amazing mercy to both my husband and me. We have excellent doctors in McCall, Idaho, for which we are grateful. Again, we thank AIM for their excellent health products. We are baffled over me even getting cancer, but the Lord knows the reason. If I can help someone with their health, it will be worth it all.

I just received my AIM order last week with the new Living Well magazine (June 2015). I am really excited about the article about the AIM Mag-nificence™ magnesium lotion. A day or two before getting my order, I fell flat on my stomach on our driveway, twisting my ankle. By evening my ankle started hurting, and that night I had shooting pains whenever I tried walking on it. Thinking I would have to get it X-rayed in the morning, I soaked my foot using the crystals and then rubbed the lotion over my foot. Praying about it, we went to bed, and by morning the pain had left. It was a little swollen but thankfully the pain never returned. Thank you, AIM, for publishing that excellent article.

Slow Down the Hands of Time: Part 2

Mitchell Clarke

by Mitchell Clarke, AIM Group Builder • Burnaby, BC

The “Godfather of Soul” James Brown sang a hit song, “Get Up Offa That Thing,” and that is what I would encourage you to do as well. What I mean by this is that exercise made a positive difference in my health, and AIM products provide the supplemental nutrition to keep me healthy and energized for physical activity.

I’ve been a happy AIM member since March 2009. My health has been radically changed by using AIM products. Many people say on a continual basis that my wife, Debbie, and I look so healthy, and they are surprised to find out our ages. I’m sixty, and Deb is fifty-seven.

You may recognize me from the article, “Slow Down the Hands of Time,” published in a 2010 issue of Living Well magazine. I related my journey to good health through the use of AIM products after having my first heart attack at the age of fifty. I had a second, less severe heart attack in 2012. However, I am excited to say that my cardiologist, Dr. Bonet, informed me on August 15, 2014 that the defect in my heart is gone.
It was Dr. Bonet who had told me that exercise from walking was insufficient to deal with the plaque that was building up in my arteries. Along with a change of diet, I needed to attend a Healthy Heart program, which emphasizes rest, relaxation, quietness, calmness, and moderate exercise, as well as breathing techniques for eighty minutes, three times a week.

I am highly competitive, so I attended this class with a hammer-and-tongs attitude as my strength increased. I am well beyond the fitness level of many in the class due to the abundant energy I derive from AIM products. They really work, helping to slow down the hands of time. This vigorous workout has been excellent for my heart and general well-being. My heart now pumps at 50 percent, and the normal heart pumps between 40 and 60 percent. Dr. Bonet has declared that my recovery is remarkable.

Natural Living with AIM

Liana

Back in 1997, AIM Director Liana Kopalyan thought she was headed for a career as an attorney. With a BA in hand, law school was the next step. After marrying Nerses Kopalyan, she decided to take a year off before continuing her studies.

During that time off, she found a small cyst after performing a breast self-exam. Her doctor recommended that the benign, tumorous mass be surgically removed. Within less than a year, it grew back. Her grandmother had died from breast cancer, so Liana felt there was a high possibility that the same thing could happen to her.

“I remember praying to God to show me what was wrong with my body,” Liana said. The next day she received a telephone call from Alice Muradyan, her friend and AIM Director, about a seminar in Mission Viejo, California, being conducted by Mary-Ann Shearer, AIM Chairman’s Club Director. Liana went to the event with a friend. “I was crying the entire time during the seminar,” she admitted. Approaching Mary-Ann afterward, Liana asked her for help.

Mary-Ann put her on a lifestyle-changing program, assuring Liana that within a month her body would repair itself and the cyst would melt away. “I bought everything Mary-Ann was selling, stocking up on AIM BarleyLife®, and then reading her books and doing research,” Liana said. “Deciding to do everything new, I trashed all of the bad food in my kitchen and went shopping at Whole Foods.”

Having decided to be 100 percent committed to the recommended lifestyle changes, it took only two weeks for her body to heal. To make sure that the cyst was no longer there, she went back to the same doctor who was now confused about whether it was the right or left breast because the cyst was gone. “It’s not difficult to comprehend. My body healed itself with nutrition like BarleyLife,” Liana stated. “I constantly take it!”

The journey to becoming an attorney reached a fork in the road at this point in Liana’s life. Instead of going to law school, she took Mary-Ann’s two-year course to become a Natural Health Consultant. Liana explained, “I got serious about good health for my family.”

In 2002, the family moved from California to Nevada, where they began attending the International Church of Las Vegas. “Our pastors, Paul and Denise Goulet, became our spiritual parents,” Liana stated, “providing leadership and bible training. After getting to know us, they supported me in teaching nutrition classes for the church.” She used Mary- Ann’s book as an outline and added fitness lessons as well.

Since 2010, Liana has been using her own workbook, 7 Keys to Vibrant Health, which makes it easy to understand and implement the lifestyle changes required to achieve and maintain wellness. Supplementing with AIM nutrition is one of the keys.

“I teach people that with the correct nutrition, the body can heal itself,” Liana  said. “As a general rule, I recommend the Daily Essentials—BarleyLife® for greens, AIMega® for omega-3 and -6 essential fatty acids, and AIM Herbal Fiberblend® for fiber and cleansing herbs. During the winter months, the AIM Garden Trio® is a must.”

Thousands of people have gone through Liana’s Natural Living program, and most arrived with health issues that ranged from the common cold, the flu, and weight management to life-threatening problems, including high cholesterol, depression, cancer, diabetes, and heart disease. By practicing the lessons learned, thousands have had incredible success, such as AIM Group Builder Gil Quintana, who was able to reverse a type 2 diabetes diagnosis and went on to become a part of Liana’s team.

“I have amazing team members with incredible testimonials,” Liana acknowledged, “including a woman who was able to heal from uterine cancer. Without chemotherapy, radiation, or surgery, three tumors disappeared within six months. She healed the natural way.”

Word of mouth is one of the most effective forms of advertising, and word got out about Liana and her effective methodology. Class sizes and schedules increased, and it was not long before she was holding seminars outside of Las Vegas for audiences of 100 to 1,000 in places such as Mexico and as far away as Armenia, where Liana was born and raised. She also teaches private clients from the USA, France, Holland, and Russia.

Her original intent to keep her family in good health has also come to pass. Liana and her husband, Nerses, who is a full-time pastor of the Armenian Church of Las Vegas have two daughters, Ovsanna and Loyda, and a son, Samuel. All three children take AIM products.

Liana is currently working out of a wellness center in Las Vegas and in the process of opening her own nutrition center. Her vision is to provide 100 percent natural products and services for clients and students local and abroad.

Looking back on what Liana feels is a divine connection that led her on this journey, she acknowledged, “I am grateful to Mary-Ann Shearer for restoring my health. Over the years she has been my teacher, professor, role model, and now an amazing mentor.”
