Two Miracles

When I was a teenager, my mother, Janet Pauly, was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma and given a limited time to live. Even though she had gone for several different treatments at MD Anderson in Houston, the premier cancer hospital in the country, her doctor told her that he had nothing left to offer her. It was devastating for all of us.

Then a friend of hers sent an envelope with some green powder in it. My mother was very skeptical but had no other options. She tried the sample of BarleyLife and then ordered some. Within four months, all of her tumors were gone.

Around that same time, I was diagnosed with ulcerative colitis, an inflammatory bowel disease that affects the lining of the colon. I was frequently in severe pain accompanied by bleeding and had to take steroids and other medications. My parents were told that within 10 years, I would have to have my colon removed. I took BarleyLife and have been doing so ever since. I can proudly report that I have been symptom-free of ulcerative colitis for 34 years. This just doesn’t happen.

The wonderful thing is that my mother did not intend to have a business but with her miracle and my miracle, she would tell everyone she knew, and lo and behold she had an AIM business, which she started back in 1984.

Last year my husband and I were quite blessed to inherit this very successful network marketing business. Not only have the products changed our lives, but also the business. We were able to leave our jobs and do this full time, which enables us to travel. And we can work from the road. AIM has blessed us with our health and with our wealth. So if anybody is considering starting an AIM business, I highly recommend it.

Fit is the New Thin: Caitlin Lawrence

I was born at a normal weight but with a big appetite. I remember dieting from an early age without much success. Although my mom was always into health foods and we were notoriously known as “the healthiest family in the neighborhood,” my weight tended to make people to think otherwise.

My mom was introduced to AIM products when I was about 14. She began forcing the whole family take greens and fiber. As a result of the healthy diet and AIM products, my brother and I rarely got sick. When we did have an illness or surgery, our recovery time was much shorter than average, like the time I had to have my stone-filled gallbladder removed.

When I entered university, I lived in residence for two years and my food choices became increasingly worse. I gained weight, became extremely depressed and anxious and did poorly in school. I suffered terribly from irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), to the point where I’d have to eat two hours before going out because of the attacks that followed meals.

I finally decided to move back home and attend community college. My first year went well, but my food intake was still unhealthy. My weight ballooned to 230 pounds, and I was extremely unhappy and self-conscious about my body.

I made up my mind that 2013 was the year for me to make a change, so planning for my weight loss and health gain journey began. On April 28, I started Weight Watchers and began exercising five times a week while working full-time at a fast food restaurant. By December, I dropped to 165 pounds but reached a plateau that I struggled to break through.

I decided to try an elimination cleanse that worked dramatically for my mom, who had strug­gled to lose weight her entire life. The main com­ponent was filling your body with beneficial and nutri­tious food. It was at this point in my life that AIM products became vital to my journey.

My weight has fluctuated over the last three years, but three things have remained consistent: my exercise routine, my healthier food choices and the inclusion of the AIM products in my life.

Since I am lactose intolerant, have IBS and don’t have a gallbladder, I am unable to consume milk products and find it difficult to digest fats, particularly those found in deep-fried foods and meat products. I rely on the ProPeas for protein boosters because I do not eat much meat.

I love to start my day with a smoothie that contains ProPeas, fit ’n fiber and CoCoa LeafGreens. I have taken BarleyLife and Herbal Fiberblend capsules in the evening for the past eight years, but since attending the AIM Celebration in Toronto, I am now taking the Garden Trio in the morning and for lunch instead. I’m looking forward to reaping the benefits of this inclusion.

Other products I rely on include FloraFood and PrepZymes to help absorb and digest fats, AIMega to provide good fats for brain and skin health and Composure to relieve anxiety and depression.

I’m happy to say that I’m maintaining a weight of 140 pounds and haven’t felt better. My IBS and anxiety still like to rear their heads from time to time, but I am able to control them for the most part through a controlled diet that includes AIM products. While losing weight and gaining health are largely based on determination and drive, I can say with certainty that I would not be where I am today without AIM.

5 Nutritional Strategies for Irritable Bowel Syndrome

Irritable bowel syndrome affects a significant segment of the population (around 15%).  The underlying cause or causes of IBS is unknown, but it often manifests in a variety of symptoms like cramps, diarrhea, gas, bloating and constipation.  To complicate matters further, each sufferer’s symptoms can be triggered by any number of factors specific to the individual.  That means a nutritional strategy has to be self-tailored, possibly under the watch of a healthcare professional.  We will examine what experts are saying about nutrition for IBS as well as some of the latest research.

Fiber Supplements

The International Foundation for Functional Gastrointestinal Disorders calls fiber a double-edged sword because some IBS sufferers may experience gas or bloating after use. However, they also add that almost every IBS sufferer would likely benefit from a moderate fiber increase. The IFFGD recommends gradually increasing fiber intake until reaching 20-35 grams per day (based on the individual’s recommended dietary allowance).

Probiotics

There is evidence that probiotics which contain Bifodacteria may alleviate or reduce some symptoms of irritable bowel syndrome. There is a caveat to this, however.  In terms of IBS, it is less about just taking a probiotic and more about gut-flora manipulation. Some people found relief from IBS by taking antibiotics which kills gut flora, and others have benefited by gradually changing the landscape of their gut biome over time.

Digestive Enzymes

Digestive enzymes like amylase, lactase, protease and lipase help break down food, making digestion easier. There have only been two small studies on digestive enzymes and IBS. Both have been positive. One study found that enzymes improved post-meal IBS symptoms. The other showed that enzymes helped relieve gas and bloating.

Magnesium 

Dr. Carolyn Dean wrote The Magnesium Miracle. She also, conveniently, wrote IBS for Dummies. In her works,  she explains that magnesium taken orally can have a laxative effect, helpful for people whose IBS has made them constipated.  However, if a person suffers from IBS-related diarrhea, he or she can use a topical magnesium on the skin to reap magnesium’s benefits without upsetting the stomach.

A Low-FODMAP Diet

There is evidence that short-chain carbohydrates (aka fermentable oligo-saccharides, si-saccharides, mono-saccharides and polyols) can aggravate IBS because they tend to ferment in the gut and cause gas. That is why many IBS sufferers choose to follow a low-FODMAP diet. You can find a complete list of low- and high-FODMAP foods here. Spicy foods, sugary foods and caffeine can be problematic as well.

AIM offers nutritional supplements that can fit into a low-FODMAP diet as well as digestive enzymes, probiotics, fiber and topical magnesium. But in the case of IBS, you should consult a medical practitioner before making any drastic dietary changes. This post is for education purposes only.
