Staying Healthy on Vacation

On Vacation

Traveling has always been one of Donna Eilertsen’s priorities in life. “Basically, I worked hard all my life so that I could afford to travel,” she admitted. “Otherwise, I would have earned just enough to live simply and stay home.”

Home is Vancouver, British Columbia, where Donna has lived for over fifty-three years. During those years, she journeyed to her desired destinations all over the world including Europe, South America, and Asia. When she retired in 2008, Donna had all the time in the world to focus on where to go next. She had dreamed of going to Africa as a little girl and made that dream come true in January 2013.

“I started planning over a year before the plane took off, so I got a great deal on the flight, hotels, and safaris,” Donna explained. Going to Africa also requires a fair amount of vaccinations that must be done well in advance. “I wanted to stay healthy throughout the trip and was concerned about the day-long flight.”

Having struggled with jet lag and colds from flying, Donna read with great interest a testimonial about AIM Proancynol® 2000 in Living Well magazine. Chairman’s Club Director Janet Pauly had taken this natural health product to avoid jet lag and received an unexpected result: She got rid of a persistent cough. Donna decided to buy Proancynol 2000—six months before her trip.

This world traveler became a Preferred Member a month after joining AIM in May 2010. She regularly takes four heart health products— AIM CellSparc 360®, AIMega®,and AIM BarleyLife® capsules. “I brought all of my supplements in capsules along with me on the trip,” Donna stated, having decided to take two Proancynol 2000 every two hours during the twenty-four-hour flight.

Her advance plans for staying healthy throughout her dream-of-a-lifetime trip worked. Traveling and camping out on chilly nights under African skies can negatively affect health. But unlike most of the people she met on safari in Kenya and Tanzania, Donna never got sick. Some of her traveling companions were surprised that she managed to stay healthy, especially since Donna was the retired elder of the group.

Keeping in touch with her new worldwide friends after she returned to Canada in good health, Donna was surprised to find out through e-mails and phone calls that none of them had taken their supplements while on vacation. Back home, each had a terrible cold, so they asked Donna where they could buy the products that had kept her well. “I told them about AIM,” Donna said, “especially Proancynol 2000 for flying.”

Showing no signs of slowing down or fading interest in new adventures, Donna turned seventy in April. In the same month, she confirmed a flight to Bali for January 2014. Her traveling companion to Indonesia asked her to buy extra Proancynol 2000 for the trip. Donna tells everyone about Proancynol 2000 because it works.

Take It to Heart

Take it to Heart

Introduced back in 1996, AIM CellSparc 360® provides plant-sourced coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10), a natural nutrient that provides antioxidant properties, decreases the risk of blood clots, and sparks cellular energy.

The heart requires an enormous amount of energy to beat over a lifetime, so sufficient amounts of CoQ10 are vital for staying alive. Although CoQ10 is naturally produced by the body, the aging process reduces levels of this crucial nutrient. Daily supplementation of CellSparc 360 increases CoQ10 levels.

Medical science is often slow in legitimizing the effectiveness of nutrients that AIM has offered for years, and such is the case with CoQ10 for heart health benefits. The conclusion of a 2013 study cited in the European Journal of Heart Failure determined that patients with chronic heart failure should use CoQ10 as a part of their maintenance therapy.

The study’s first author, Svend Aage Mortensen, MD, said, “… These results are guideline changing, making a strong case for CoQ10, a natural substance that’s virtually without side effects, to be considered as part of the maintenance therapy for all patients with chronic heart failure. CoQ10 (also known as ubiquinone) is a vitamin like substance … and generates energy in the form of ATP.” (the website of European Society of Cardiology [27 May 2013])

These days, doctors in the know recommend CoQ10 supplementation to patients taking statin drugs to reduce cholesterol levels. That’s because this medication also reduces the body’s CoQ10 levels.

Of course, AIM’s own research indicated the addition of palm oil tocotrienols, which help reverse blockage of the carotid artery, reducing the risk of arteriosclerosis and stroke. Both CoQ10 and tocotrienols are fat-soluble, so AIM included pure fish oil in the CellSparc 360 formula to enhance bioavailability and to add heart-healthy omega-3 essential fatty acids.

Providing another source of omega-3, AIMega® is natural health product that you can also take to heart on a daily basis for overall wellness. Omega-3 essential fatty acids cannot be produced by the body, so dietary intake is vital for good health.

AIMega’s organic seed-oil source is flaxseed, a plant-based omega-3 that WebMD reports to “help the cardiovascular system through several different mechanisms, including anti-inflammatory action and normalizing the heartbeat.” Flaxseeds also provide the richest dietary source of lignans. The Linus Pauling Institute specifies that “Diets rich in foods containing plant lignans have been consistently associated with reductions in risk of cardiovascular disease.”

AIM takes your well-being to heart by providing high-quality, natural health products that are effective in keeping you and your heart in good health.

AIM Products and Cardiovascular Health

The Cardiovascular System

The cardiovascular system transports oxygen, nutrients, hormones and cellular waste and is comprised of the heart, blood and veins.  The term cardiovascular disease refers to a series of illnesses that can affect this system. Many health problems related to the cardiovascular system have been dubbed “lifestyle diseases” because they stem from bad habits such as a poor diet, a lack of exercise and other lifestyle choices.   Part of the problem starts when plaque begins to build up on the arterial walls. This is known as atherosclerosis.  From there, high blood pressure, stroke, heart attack and other conditions or illnesses can develop.  With proper nutrition and positive changes, a person should be able to correct these problems.

Omega-3 Fatty Acids

The body is unable to make omega-3 fatty acids, and they have to be obtained through food sources.  They are readily available through plant sources such as nuts and seeds. Recent research has suggested that plant-sourced omega-3 fatty acids are just as effective for promoting heart health as those from fish.

Studies indicate that omega-3 fatty acids can

  • Lower risk of arrhythmia
  • Lower triglyceride levels
  • Lower growth rate of plaque
  • Decrease blood pressure
  • Prevent inflammation or blood clots

Dietary Nitrate

Dietary nitrate found in leafy green vegetables, rhubarb and beets has been shown to promote the production of nitric oxide, a vasodilator that widens blood vessels. Multiple studies have shown that drinking beet juice regularly can lower blood pressure.  A recent study showed an 8/4 mmHg reduction in blood pressure, a 20% improvement in blood vessel dilation and a 10% reduction in arterial stiffness. Long-term beet juice consumption was shown to have positive effects on blood pressure, lasting for two weeks after cessation.

Fiber

Many of fiber’s benefits will be covered in a Digestion Post, but fiber is also known for heart health.

Research suggests that fiber:

  • Lowers cholesterol levels
  • Lowers blood sugar levels in diabetics
  • May help lower blood pressure
  • Reduces the risk of heart disease and diabetes
  • And helps with weight management

Bear Paw Garlic

A unique wild garlic leaf supplement  that helps lower cholesterol and maintain healthy cardiovascular and blood pressure levels. Traditionally used to treat symptoms of upper respiratory tract infections.

Current opinion states that the y-glutamyl peptides and ajoene result in an increase in the difference across the membrane of the vascular smooth muscle. This, in turn, results in a widening of blood vessels, which maintains healthy blood pressure. Adenosine helps increase blood vessel width and can also reduce platelet aggregation (blood stickiness).

CoQ10

CoQ10 is found in every human cell, helps the body convert food into energy and is a powerful antioxidant.  It also provides benefits for the cardiovascular system.  According to studies, COQ10 may play a role in lower cholesterol levels due to the fact that people with high cholesterol tend to have lower levels of CoQ10. Additionally, CoQ10 may improve endothelial function and one study found that long-term use showed significant improvements in blood pressure.
