Exercise Ing

Whichever form of movement you choose, an exercise with an ing turns it into an action of physical activity. Walking, swimming and cycling are three popular examples that require only basic equipment to get into action.

Each rhythmically repetitive move of walking, swimming or cycling gives you an aerobic workout that uses your body’s large muscle groups. At the same time, you increase your heart rate and oxygen consumption. These effects of aerobic activity significantly contribute to cardiovascular health. Improving and maintaining the cardiovascular system is at the heart of aerobic exercise, which can also increase bone strength, improve balance and boost mental function.

In addition to a wealth of health benefits, walking, swimming and cycling are all low-impact exercises, so you activate your muscles and strengthen your heart muscle without excessive stress on your joints. This is especially good for people of all ages who are new to exercising, as well as non-believers of the exercise motto, “no pain, no gain.”

Just like stepping on the accelerator of a car, it’s up to you how fast you go when walking, swimming or cycling. By doing so, you can adjust the intensity of the aerobic workout you’re getting according to your level of fitness, which will improve with regular exercise over time. And if weight loss is a goal, these aerobic exercises burn off calories. The level of intensity determines just how many.

Perhaps, one of the most important things worth keeping in mind is to make exercising fun. Think of the first time children find balance riding bicycles, transporting them in their immediate world and to imagined places. Consider the confidence of children swimming in a pool, a lake or the sea, and the water world that becomes their playground.

Then there’s the simple joy on the faces of babies taking their first balanced steps, leading to energetic walking. Such initial physical activity is not always thought of in terms of exercise, but it is. That’s when exercising usually begins, and the fun doesn’t have to end.

Walking, swimming, cycling are only three moving choices in a world of physical activity. Whichever form you choose, make it fun so that it becomes something you look forward to on a regular basis. That way, exercising will remain enjoyable as well as beneficial throughout a lifetime.

  2. Hello AIM,

I want to reply to this excellent article on the importance of regular exercise, no matter what age.
I personally feel that a commitment to a routine of some kind of AIMing to exercise every day is absolutely essential to one’s mental, physical and spiritual, “Living Well”. James Clear, the author of “Atomic Habits”, explains how a habit, however, needs a system to be implemented to be effective, which to many is not understood, so is not done, and the results show.
I attribute my state of good health to being committed to continue my various systems of exercises daily, in all seasons, as to me they are not only, essential; but also, are non-negotiable, along with taking my AIM products since 1997, no matter where I am.

    Sincerely,
    Jan Baxter
