It’s the New Year and already the weight of any resolutions you made can feel like someone nagging you to do something about it. If you have resolutely made up your mind to lower the number that appears when you step on a scale, then at least you can be comforted in knowing that you are not alone. An online survey that asked “What are your New Year’s resolutions?” revealed that 45 percent of the people who responded wanted to lose weight or get in shape. Many fail.
Looking back at all of the weight-loss fads that have been foisted on the public over the years, it would seem that all of the diet plans that have come and gone were most successful in gaining fees and royalties for the people who happened to come up with the latest craze. It’s still happening. What is rarely happening is healthy weight loss that stays off.
Burn More Than You Consume
Sometimes the most practical way to do something successfully seems . . . well, too sensible, as though it has to be a case of no pain, no gain. But what if being practical actually works best for losing weight?
Every body is different, but every body burns calories daily. This works for maintaining an ideal body weight. If inactive, your body burns anywhere from 1,800 – 2,400 calories daily in the normal metabolic process. So if your daily caloric intake outweighs what your body burns, you become overweight. It’s pretty much that simple. To reverse this, burn more than you consume to lose weight.
Hunger Pangs
The primary feeling that works against the balance of calories in and calories burned is hunger. We all get hungry. How we react to hunger is what separates the “lightweight” from the overweight.
Do you know that you can eat a big bowl of raw vegetables that gives you healthy plant nutrients, vitamins, minerals and fiber but with minimal calories? The most difficult part is washing and chopping a daily supply and storing it in the fridge. For some, the most difficult part will be training their minds and bodies that vegetables are a better choice than a big bowl of potato chips. It’s called being in charge of your health.
Suppose you make this vegetable feast one of your three meals of the day. The pounds will slowly waste away from your waist. Slow but sure is a healthy approach to weight loss.
AIM for Satiety
AIM provides another way to have a replacement meal without a lot of calories: the Weight Loss Pack. And a fine mix it is—vegetable protein from ProPeas, a variety of filling fiber from fit ’n fiber and fat- and carbohydrate-metabolizing nutrients from GlucoChrom. Drinking daily smoothies made with ProPeas and fit ’n fiber are an effective way to feel satiated for hours. AIM for weight loss through healthy nutrition.
Helping Your Body’s Metabolism
This is the point where the E-word appears: exercise. Some people cringe at the thought, even though they know it’s good for them. Others don’t feel balanced unless they get some exercise.
These days, there are a lot of extreme forms of physical activity. Do not even go there if you’re someone who tends back away from the idea of physical activity. There are simple ways to get some beneficial exercise without having to go to extremes or a fitness center for that matter.
Take a Walk
Walking is natural for human beings and really easy. Cars and public transportation are great inventions, but they have eliminated the need to walk from point A to B. This vehicular convenience is the usual go-to choice even for short distances, so a simple way to get some daily exercise is missed by walking to a vehicle only.
Climb Stairs
Stairs are a great way to get a cardiovascular workout, but elevators are the vehicle of choice for the ups and downs of daily life. Taking the stairs instead of entering an elevator and pushing a button gives you a lot more exercise. And if you need to go up several flights, start by climbing stairs for a floor or two to build your stamina. You may eventually be able to climb to the top all on your own steam.
In the end, losing pounds that you don’t want to carry around can make living in your body feel so much better. It’s a worthwhile New Year’s resolution that’s doable. Just do it sensibly and get some help from AIM.
