The Joint Issue

Smoothly moving joints are like well-oiled door hinges and contribute greatly to painless aging. One of the best ways to avoid joint aches and pains is to take AIM Frame Essentials to give your body essential nutrients that help maintain healthy joints. But first some basics of what lies between.

The Cartilage Connection

Three types of cartilage are found in the body:

  1. Elastic
  2. Fibrous
  3. Hyaline (Articular)

Found in most joints, hyaline (glass-like) cartilage is a type of connective tissue and a buffer between bone ends that is shiny and smooth, like two pieces of hard glass gliding over one another. Hyaline is also called articular cartilage because it refers to the bone surfaces that meet to form joints.

The bone structure of the body is made into moving joints by this cushioning system. With a stretch of the imagination, you could think of articular cartilage as a pillow between bone ends. But these pillows are made of tough, flexible tissue, perfect for cushioning the effect of two bone ends rubbing together during movement as well as acting as shock absorbers for any weight-bearing activity.

But even this incredibly resilient cartilage can be damaged by injury, the wear and tear of time or diseases that cause joint inflammation and cartilage erosion. Again, Frame Essentials can be taken to provide preventative and corrective support to help maintain healthy cartilage.

Inside Cartilage

The only cells in cartilage are chondrocytes, which are directly involved in the synthesis and turnover of the extracellular matrix that makes up articular cartilage. Simply put, the chondrocyte is the architect of cartilage.

One of the chemical compounds produced in the body that greatly affects chondrocytes is a natural amino sugar called glucosamine, which is found around cartilage cells and in the synovial fluid around joints. It just so happens that glucosamine is a natural precursor of glycosaminoglycan, a component of the cartilage extracellular matrix, which is why supplementing with glucosamine is thought to provide a substance that might help with the synthesis and repair of cartilage.

A 2006 study published in the Osteoarthritis and Cartilage journal revealed that “glucosamine modulates chondrocyte proliferation, matrix synthesis, and gene expression . . . optimal amount of glucosamine preserves cartilage tissue and promotes its repair upon damage.”

Frame Essentials: Nutrients for Healthy Cartilage

Providing both glucosamine hydrochloride and sulfate, Frame Essentials gives your body optimal daily amounts of an essential nutrient for healthy cartilage. There are no food sources, so you need to take a supplement like Frame Essentials to increase your glucosamine levels.

Glucosamine is also an effective anti-inflammatory compound. Osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis are inflammatory in nature, creating joint degeneration and resulting pain. Levels of glucosamine drop during the aging process, so the older you get the less you probably have. This can lead to the breakdown of cartilage and the onset of arthritis.

Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs are usually prescribed to treat arthritis, but they can cause a variety of harmful side effects. Glucosamine is a safe option because it’s a natural body compound, so your body responds well to supplementation.  Studies have shown that glucosamine sulfate is a healthy alternative to non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs because it is effective in reducing inflammation and suitable for long-term use.

Along with effective glucosamine, Frame Essentials delivers two additional anti-inflammatory, joint-healthy nutrients: boswellia extract and methylsulfonylmethane (MSM).

For centuries, boswellia extract has been used as a remedy for chronic inflammatory issues. Commonly known as frankincense, the resin produced by the Boswellia serrata tree contains acids that help to prevent the formation of inflammation-causing molecules called leukotrienes. This natural resin goes hand in hand with glucosamine in reducing joint pain, stiffness and swelling.

Like glucosamine, methylsulfonylmethane (MSM) is another natural, anti-inflammatory chemical found in the human body. This sulfur compound helps to form connective tissue in muscles and joints. Supplemental MSM has been shown to reduce inflammation and inhibit the breakdown of cartilage.

These four ingredients deliver a synergistic effect from natural nutrients working as a team to maintain healthy cartilage, making Frame Essentials is an effective supplement for avoiding the joint issue in life.

Firmly Planted

Have you ever really looked at a plant? Engaged in a staring contest with a shrub or other green foliage? They are incredible creations, able to stay rooted to the earth without ever having to go anywhere to eat.

In fact, they make their own food from the presence of minerals and water in the soil, carbon dioxide in the air and light from the sun (without the need for sunscreen). It’s a combination of light (photo) and putting things together (synthesis).

These food factories also breathe in carbon dioxide and exhale oxygen, a colorless, odorless gas that supports life on the planet. And, again, they accomplish all of this while staying firmly planted, growing but not moving very far, except skyward.

Green Emotion

Some people believe that plants have feelings and respond to care and kindness even without visible motion (or emotion).

Such a believer, who will remain nameless, was once asked by a passing neighbor how he was able to keep the houseplants in his apartment so healthy because hers were always turning brown and dying.

His response was that he looked after the plants carefully, placing them where they got the right amount of light, keeping their leaves clean and watering them regularly. His neighbor looked at him questioningly and said, “You mean you have to water them?” This is a true anecdote.

Just like someone who doesn’t know the basics of plant care, some people simply have no idea of the importance of eating a lot of plant-based foods, especially those who in their heart of hearts hate eating vegetables.

Green Food

Plants are healthy food for humans and other animals that eat vegetation, providing carbohydrates, protein, fiber, vitamins, minerals and a wealth of other plant nutrients that people’s bodies thrive on. So veggie loathing really ought to be veggie loving even though you don’t have to become a vegetarian like a cow or an elephant.

The vegetarians of the animal kingdom are called herbivores. The African elephant is the largest of the plant-eater variety, consuming around 300 pounds of foliage daily to maintain its massive presence. Just like making prolonged eye contact with a plant, pondering the elephant-sized importance of eating non-animal nutrition is worth a little bit of mind time. Plant-based foods build healthy elephants and other creatures of all shapes and sizes, including humans.

The Greenest of Them All: Barley Grass

The AIM Companies is plant-based, beginning its 37-year supplemental history by tapping into the unparalleled wealth of nutrients in young barley plants that go into BarleyLife.

Firmly planted in the soil of the earth for millenniums, barley grass lay in waiting for someone who could extract its nutritional bounty so that humans could share the same benefits enjoyed by cows and other grass grazers.

That someone was Dr. Yoshihide Hagiwara, and his assertion that barley grass is the most nutritional plant on the planet paved the way for AIM to improve on getting the most nutrition out of blades of barley grass.  Over the years, AIM has continued to maximize the nutrient levels for BarleyLife, including the lifeblood of plants: chlorophyll.

BarleyLife offers a supplemental source of whole food that goes hand in hand with choosing a plant-based diet, either partially or entirely. Taking this juice powder of young barley plants can help you to stay firmly planted on the path of good health . . . and keep you moving.

FAT

There are so many contradictory ideas floating around about fat and the amount you should consume in your diet. Just like most things in life, one size doesn’t fit all. So it is good to turn to science and not just the latest diet fad to try to find some answers.

The focus of the November 2018 issue of Science magazine was diet and health, and the introduction to this special edition included the following statement: “Advice on what constitutes a healthy diet is more prevalent and more inconsistent than ever.” Fat is a large part of the inconsistencies.

The questions of which type of diet is better—high-fat and low-carbohydrate or low-fat and high carbohydrate—were addressed in a review that looked at whether or not dietary fat had gone from being an enemy to a friend. Or is it just the type of fat that you consume?

Again, confusing, contradictory suggestions are out there. That’s why the relationship between what you consume and what it does to your health is worth scientific examination to sort out what is best even though science doesn’t have the definitive answer for everyone.

Scientific Results

Apparently no specific dietary ratio of carbohydrates and fats is best for most people. As well, people have different metabolisms, so whichever diet is chosen, it won’t necessarily deliver similar metabolic effects.

The closest thing to an answer in the review is that many people do well with a quality diet in regard to a reduction of processed foods, such as refined grains and sugar, and a considerable healthy variety of macronutrients, namely protein, fats and carbohydrates. This answer is one that The AIM Companies has been suggesting for nearly four decades.

Essential Fatty Acid Results

The specific results in regard to fat, from an AIM perspective, are not surprising either. Omega-3 and -6 are essential fatty acids because the human body cannot synthesize these polyunsaturated fats that are “critical components of every human cell membrane.” Essential fatty acids (EFAs) are available in a balanced 2:1 ratio of omega-3 and -6 in the organic seed oils in AIMega.

The review results go on to state that both EFAs are precursors of the eicosanoid hormones that mediate immunity, inflammation, insulin resistance and blood clotting. One of the monumental statements is that increasing omega-3 intake alters expression of more than 6,000 genes.

The review also referenced a large cohort study that indicates higher intake of polyunsaturated fat lowered the risk of type 2 diabetes, especially in regard to blood levels of linoleic acid, which is found in each capsule of AIMega.

As far as cholesterol is concerned, saturated fats increase blood cholesterol concentrations, whereas polyunsaturated fats reduce cholesterol levels, so the “essential” quality of fat counts.

In the end, whatever you consume, it all boils down to quality. That’s why choosing the best foods and supplements is so important for your health. Supplements such as AIMega provide a quality source of fat that is essential for good health.
