The Flavonoid Advantage

Consuming a diversity of plant-based foods provides you with such a wealth of nutrition, especially when it comes to phytonutrients. For the most part, these plant compounds have not been given dietary intake references; however, plant-based research continues to confirm their health benefits.

Some of the most common phytonutrients in the human diet come from a very large family of polyphenolic compounds called flavonoids. These include anthocyanidins, flavan-3-ols, flavonols, flavanones, flavones and isoflavones. Customers and Members who regularly take AIM nutrition are likely familiar with flavonoids, many of which are found in plant-based products such as BarleyLife, CoCoa LeafGreens and CranVerry+. Being familiar with flavonoids may extend your life.

Research published in Scientific Reports (Feb. 2024) shows the intake of dietary flavonols lowers your mortality risk. The latest data from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) was used to evaluate the estimated intake of dietary flavonols of over 11,600 participants aged 20 and above in the United States. The results reveal specifics such as increased intake of flavonols such as kaempferol and quercetin lowers all-cause mortality.

More specifically, “consumption of flavonoids is protective against all cause, cancer and CVD-mortality in particular.” Furthermore, when analyzing participants based on their ages, the intake of flavonoids had a greater protective effect on all-cause mortality reduction in those who were aged 40 years and older compared to participants under the age of 40 .”

These are pretty impressive plant-based results! Everyone can have the flavonoid advantage with healthy food choices and a side of AIM.
