Age Truly Is Just a Number!

Saying “age is just a number” is bandied about with such frequency that many individuals react with a cynical “sure it is” in response to hearing it. But there are far too many people who are fine models for the validity of this expression.

Let’s be honest, we all know people who seem old in their twenties or thirties. Then there are other people who remain vibrantly young through their eighties and nineties. Take the examples of Doris and Walter Lacks, AIM Group Builders in Norwood, New York. They prove beyond a shadow of a doubt that age is irrelevant unless you buy into the negativity that surrounds the cynics.

Ninety-year-old Doris competed in two 5K races in 2017. She’s been doing this for the past five to six years for reasons beyond her own well-being. For example, Doris raced at New York’s Union Springs Academy in the eighth annual USA Eagle Run, a competition that supports Adventist education in the form of scholarships. Other charitable races she enters are for her passions: schools and hospitals. On December 20, 2017, Doris turned ninety-one. Age is truly just a number.

Then there’s Walter Lacks, who is ninety-two and has an award named after him. Each year, the Saint Lawrence County Health Initiative gives out the Walter Lacks Award to the person who does the most volunteer work in the county that promotes healthful living. Long before it was named after him, Walter was the very first recipient.

The form used to nominate someone contains the impressive reasons Walter was given this honor:

“In 2011 the Health Initiative inaugurated the Walter Lacks Award, named for an amazing community resident, Walter Lacks, who well into his 90s works tirelessly to improve his own health and the health of community members, whether here or across the nation and the globe. This award was created to both honor him and to recognize other individuals in the community who also express the qualities that Lacks embodies.

A true champion for community health, Walter is a role model for all to admire and aspire to, demonstrating enthusiasm and commitment to both his personal wellness and his dedication to increasing the wellness in others.”

Walter is an incredibly active guy, so much so that Doris admitted, “I just can’t keep up with him!” And she noted that there is an AIM product that has helped them maintain their individual paces into their nineties. “BarleyLife keeps us going 100 miles an hour.” And she really means it!

  1. I turned 66 in January 2018 and I look and feel 20 years younger. I started taking Barley Green 25 years ago. Every morning my faithful energy comes from Barley Extra.
