NEW! Nutrition Facts Label Rules

Members will most likely have noticed that AIM has been making revisions to food product labels. Such changes are for important, time-sensitive reasons.

Back in May 2016, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) made an announcement that the rules regarding Nutrition Facts on food products would have to change to reflect the latest scientific information.

The most notable new info is the link between diet and chronic diseases that The AIM Companies has recognized since 1982, when the incomparably nutritious juice powder of barley grass was first introduced.

One of the FDA’s main reasons for this “refreshed design” in labeling is to make it easier for consumers to make informed decisions about their food choices, particularly in regard to servings, calories and sugar.

Bigger and Bolder Changes

Figuring out what the information on a label means hasn’t always been easy. With the new format, important details are much easier to read:

  1. Right at the top under Nutrition Facts, the servings per container and the number of serving sizes are bigger and bolder.
  1. The biggest and boldest detail of them all is calories per serving, one of the most important bits of information when it comes to weight management.
  1. The addition of added sugars shows the huge difference between what is naturally sweet and unnaturally sweetened.

And based on new scientific evidence, updated daily values for nutrients have been added as well. Speaking of % Daily Values, there is now a clearer definition of what it actually means: how much a nutrient in a serving of food contributes to a daily diet.

The Deadline for Change

The original due date for completing the design of these new labels was July 28, 2018.  After the rules were finalized, industry and consumer groups provided feedback regarding the need for more time to make the label changes. In October 2017, the FDA published a proposal to extend the compliance date by approximately one and a half years.

AIM is already ahead of the game, having implemented changes to some of our product labels. More labels will be revised to reflect the new rules. At the same time, the additional costs involved with such a monumental change will be minimized. For example, labels with the former Nutrition Facts can now be used past the old deadline of July 2018, complying with the FDA’s acknowledgment that consumers will see both old and the new versions of labels during the transition period.

So keep your eye on labels!

Preparation for a Cycling World Record

Sixty-year-old Wimpie van der Merwe,
Red Rush Athlete and AIM Preferred Member sets his sights on The Hour

My name is Wimpie van der Merwe, proudly South African and sixty years old. I recently attempted the master’s world record for the Hour. It’s the most prestigious record in cycling, attempting to ride the furthest distance in 60 minutes.

The Hour is even more valued than a Tour de France victory. Only the best in cycling have ever held this record. For most, it’s a career-ending effort. Not only is the Hour so physically demanding, it is so emotionally fulfilling that there is hardly any worthwhile goal to fulfill after achieving it.

An Impressive Cycling Career

During my cycling career, I have broken many records: 12 world, 18 African and 18 South African, setting records on both sides of the spectrum with distances from 200 meters to 1,000 kilometers. Presently, I still hold records: 12 South African, 11 African and 1 world, making me one of the most accomplished riders in the history of cycling.

Remaining very active on the international scene, I competed in the 1,400 km ultra-endurance London Edinburgh London (LEL) race in the first few days of August 2017. All of these achievements have made me one of the most knowledgeable cyclists when it comes to preparation of the mind and body for speed and endurance. And I’m willing to share some of these principles

The Science of Cycling Endurance

At the outset, I had to become my own scientist, learning through experimentation and making my own mistakes. There are no scientists who have been there to tell me what to do. In fact, scientists study and follow sportsmen like me. And at this level of competition, I had to accept that there is no manual to follow.

Mentally, someone who wants to do what I do should have a single-minded purpose, not accept “no” for an answer, have an innate desire to test the limits, never be satisfied with the status quo, be persistent and focused, make friends with pain and discomfort, be willing to sacrifice more than the rest of the competition, understand that limitations are man-made and that “impossible” is a silly word.

Most of the time it is easier to know what to do than to do what you know because it costs discipline and sacrifice to put knowledge into action and reach the pinnacle of
success. To be the best in your sport, there is no shortcut. So if you want to ruin your life and reputation, you can follow in the footsteps of Lance Armstrong.

Building a Foundation for Success

The basics of sport are the same as in building a house: to have a roof, you need to have walls and a foundation. The foundation of any success lies in the preparation phase, sometimes a multi-year period. Money cannot buy it. You cannot borrow it. You cannot replace it with a pill. Stamina, or mileage, the slow conditioning, muscle and body chemistry development phase is the primary part of any preparation.

About 60 percent of your time spent in preparing and nurturing stamina will be below an effort of a heart rate zone of 2-2.5 millimoles per litre (mMol) lactate. What follows is the power phase. About 30 percent of your time is spent at a corresponding effort of up to 4 mMol lactate. This is an effort that starts distinguishing the men from the boys.

The Hour record is done at an intensity as close as possible to the 4 mMol level. This is the “pay-as-you-go” level. The art of the Hour record is to be able to keep your effort exactly on this level. It can be explained as follows: If you go one beat faster, you are in oxygen debt and have to slow down, paying interest for the effort that was too hard. If you go one beat slower, it is ground you lost and can never make up again.

The final 10 percent of your time spent in preparation is in the zone above 4 mMol lactate. This is the red zone, the roof of your building. This is where strength manifests, lactic acid tolerance is developed and, at the same time, the most physical and mental damage occurs. It is the reason why you spend the least of your time here. It is quality time. It is the zone of pain and discomfort. It is the zone where your character is reflected. This is the zone that everyone subconsciously wants to avoid because fatigue makes cowards of us all. This is the top of the pyramid and as we all know, the higher the pyramid, the broader its base should be (stamina).

The Legal Edge: AIM Red Rush

Red Rush has proven itself so beneficial for these two latter zones because it delays the onset of fatigue. For the same workload to reach maximal heart rate, you can now last at least 16 percent longer. Because it enables the body to work more efficiently with fat as a source of energy, it lowers lactate levels at the same workload than before.

I drink one Red Rush daily to top up my nitrate levels and two before a major workout or competition to help me last longer and give me the legal edge to shatter human limitations they call world records.

AIM Star Sapphire Direction Promotion: Ginette Paquin

July turned into a special month for Ginette Paquin this year. She promoted to AIM Star Sapphire Director, reaching an elite position in the AIM Member Income Plan.

When Ginette joined AIM back in 1998, she was already on the road to quick promotions, becoming a Preferred Member within a month. In less than a year and a half, she promoted to Director. To date, Ginette has 117 memberships in her downline.

Over the years, her AIM journey has taken Ginette to the distant shores of Madagascar and back. After operating a health clinic for fourteen years in her native Quebec, Ginette closed it in 2009. Then she and her husband, Mario Foster, moved to Madagascar, where Ginette did mission work. And she brought AIM products to share with the locals.

Working with children living on the street, Ginette got involved with Love-n-Care Ministries. Later, they founded Youth Challenge, which worked to teach children French, sign language and life skills as well as be fed two nutritious meals when they come to school. They have funded the building of schools that children attend for free. Along with receiving a basic education, the children study music, sewing, embroidery and life skills.

Using income from her AIM business, Ginette and Mario have helped to fund ministries and missionaries in Madagascar as well as provide a private-school education for eleven children in need.

Ginette and Mario have been married for thirty-one years, raising two children of their own. Their son Philippe and his wife Josée have three children, Nadia, Gabriel and Nicolas. Their daughter Jennifer is the mother of Kelly-Anne and Noah. All of Ginette and Mario’s family members are on the AIM products, including their five grandchildren. As for her own favorites, Ginette chooses the Daily Essentials Pack (Canada) — BarleyLife, Herbal Fiberblend and AIMega — plus CellSparc 360.

When Ginette returned to Canada in 2015, people began calling her about re-opening her clinic. “I believe my calling is to help others with their health,” Ginette stated. ”It gives me additional freedom to help more people.” Meeting people in their homes or having them visit her home has been beneficial in helping to educate them on nutrition and to regain their health by using the AIM products. “Datasheets are my favorite sales tool. So much information is given at meetings, so having datasheets in their hands to see and read is very helpful.”

“We are so grateful for The AIM Companies™ and the products they offer that helped changed our lives as well as the lives of those we share with,” Ginette said. “I would like to personally thank Andrée Jobin from French Services for all her help, support and friendship. When we were in Madagascar, she was always so helpful.”

Ginette’s advice for building a successful AIM business is to truly want to help others with their health, adding “When you love your neighbors and do good for them, God will open the door and all will fall into place.”

Diabetes is Bad But Reducing Inflammation with AIM Products Can Help

Diseases deserve their awful-sounding names: tuberculosis, fibromyalgia, cancer. No matter how you say them, they sound as bad as they are and make life worse than it ever should be.

There’s one particular disease out there with a growing, rippling effect around the globe. That’s because the number of people in the world who have diabetes is increasing with each passing year. The worldwide statistic for adults living with diabetes was 108 million in 1980. By 2014 that number had reached 422 million.

The Impact of Type 2 Diabetes

The majority have type 2 diabetes—the body makes insulin, but cells don’t use it effectively. That means blood sugar remains high, circulating throughout the body and causing chronic inflammation. Shockingly, it used to be a disease that only adults developed but now commonly affects children.

Type 2 diabetes is bad because it can damage eyes, kidneys, the heart, blood vessels and nerves, resulting in blindness, kidney failure, heart attacks, stroke or lower limb amputation. Diabetes is really bad.

Lifestyle changes, such as a proper diet and regular exercise to maintain a healthy weight, can be effective in preventing or reversing type 2 diabetes. So it just doesn’t make sense that more and more people are being diagnosed.

Or maybe it makes perfect sense when considering the worldwide embracement of poor nutrition: fatty fast foods, processed foods, sugar-filled foods and drinks! They are not natural, so consuming them on a regular basis creates unnatural side effects like chronic inflammation that can lead to the onset of type 2 diabetes.

A 2003 study published by the American Diabetes Association shows that people with type 2 diabetes have higher levels of inflammation, particularly with the presence of cytokines1: inflammatory chemicals often stored in fat tissue.

It’s a given that if you have—or are told to be at risk of—type 2 diabetes, lifestyle changes are necessary, mainly in regard to eating whole foods that are primarily plant-based. For example, dark, leafy green vegetables are an ideal food to combat inflammation.

Anti-Inflammatory Nutrition

BarleyLife delivers anti-inflammatory properties in the natural balance of nutrients found in barley grass, concentrated into a unique juice powder. The body thrives on a daily supply of antioxidants, chlorophyll, enzymes, minerals and vitamins, especially when these nutrients come from a plant-based source as rich as barley grass.

AIMega contains omega-3 essential fatty acids that the body cannot produce but requires to reduce inflammation. AIMega’s balanced 2:1 ratio of omega-3 and -6 from organic seed oils contribute to the healthy membrane structure and function of every cell.

Herbal Fiberblend or fit ’n fiber provide the anti-inflammatory properties of fiber, which slows down digestion and the release of glucose into the blood. Additionally, insulin is not required to digest fiber, so blood sugar levels are not spiked. A high-fiber intake makes the stomach feel full for a long time, helping to maintain a healthy weight.

GlucoChrom offers a natural way to increase the effective action of insulin, which channels blood sugar where it belongs: into cells that use glucose as an energy source, not a source of inflammation. The GlucoChrom combination of chromium, vanadium citrate, Gymnema sylvestre leaf extract and bitter melon fruit also helps to metabolize carbohydrates and fats, which assists with weight management.

Diabetes is bad, but there are natural ways to combat the bad and make it better. AIM leads the natural way.

The Stress Reliever: Mag-nificence CWR

A multitude of different factors contribute to most people being deficient in magnesium in today’s society, an important one being chronically high stress levels.

Stress increases adrenaline and cortisol and there is an associated decline in magnesium because it is used to counteract the “fight or flight” stress response of the body.

As a student with deadlines and time pressures, I know my stress levels can get out of hand. Since magnesium can be absorbed transdermally (through the skin), I love to use Mag-nificence CWR to increase my intercellular magnesium.

If I make the time to have a bath, wonderful! However, what I find much more feasible with my nightly agenda of studying or essay writing is footbaths. I fix a basin of hot water, pour in CWR and then let my body absorb the magnesium through my feet while my hands are free to work— multitasking at its best!
